President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev took part in a memorial event at the Otan Korgaushylar monument in Astana, the press service of the President said. "The Head of State laid flowers at the monument and talked to veterans of war and labor," RIA Novosti reports.
The ceremony was attended by about 10 thousand people, the participants observed a minute of silence in memory of soldiers who died in battle.
The President congratulated all the citizens of the Republic on Victory Day. "Millions of people were killed at the front, many became disabled. We are the happy generation, the generation of our fathers who won. Therefore, our veterans deserve all the attention, not only during the holiday, but also in everyday life," he stressed.
