Muslims celebrate ascension of the Prophet Muhammad

Muslims in the night from Friday to Saturday celebrate a religious holiday - Miraj Night, during which they recall the night journey of Prophet Muhammad from Mecca to Jerusalem and his ascension to heaven.

According to the Council of Muftis of Russia, although this date (26-27 Rajab) is approximate, the day after obligatory night namaz- prayer, it is used  to perform a special prayer in honor of the event, RIA Novosti reports.

Night or Miraj Laylat al-Isra Val Miradzh (Rajab al-Adha) in accordance with the Islamic tradition, the great prophet Mohammed made a miraculous journey from the Al-Haram Mosque in Mecca to Jerusalem in the al-Aqsa mosque, and ascended to the seventh heaven to the throne of God, where he  was revealed divine signs and wonders.

In the Qur'an miraculous ascension of the Prophet Muhammad (Mi'raj night)  Surah "Al-Isra" is devoted. The Arabic word "israun" means "night journey", ie Allah's Messenger instant transfer from Mecca to Jerusalem ( this night journey does not depend on temporal and spatial values), and the word "mi'radzhun" - "climbing", «rapture" "ladder".

On this night,  angel Jabriel (Gabriel) visited  Prophet Muhammad, sleeping near a mosque in Mecca and urged him to travel to Jerusalem on a winged horse Buraq. First, Muhammad and Gabriel visited Mount Sinai and Bethlehem , and then approached the gate of the temple of Jerusalem.

Mohammed entered the Temple, where he expected other prophets Ibrahim (Abraham), Isa (Jesus), Musa (Moses) and the father of mankind, Adam. The Prophet Muhammad made a prayer with them, where he was Primate - Imam. After the prayer, Gabriel brought Mohammed two glasses - one with milk and the other with wine. When Muhammad chose milk, Gabriel said: "Truly you are on the right way - you and your people! Wine is forbidden for you" (prohibition of Islam in the consumption of alcoholic beverages is based, in particular, on this episode).

Then, according to legend, accompanied by  Gabriel Mohammed climbed the stairs to heaven angels (miradzh) and visited  seven heavens. On the ground the sky Adam himself opened the gates of heaven to the Prophet; on the second he met the prophets Yahya and Isa, the third - Yusuf, the fourth - Idris, on the fifth - Haruna, on the sixth - Musa; the seventh, the highest heaven,  forefather Abraham the patriarch of all the prophets was sitting there, who showed Muhammad paradise. All the prophets welcomed Mohammed as a brother.

The essence of this revelation to Muhammad disclosed as follows. One of the most important features of Miraj is that while it  was ordered  compulsory (Fard) fivefold namaz. The Messenger of Allah had said the following words: "None of the prophets will not enter into heaven before you! And no community will  enter paradise before your community!". It is revealed in last verses of Soorat al-Baqarah (The Cow). As stated in the hadith: "The Messenger of Allah were given three things during Mi'raj - five-time prayer, the completion of the sura" al-Baqara "and the news that the people of his community, who do not fall into the sin of polytheism, will be forgiven all their great sins sins "
