Joint Russian-Chinese group exercises are starting joint exercises "Sea cooperation-2015" in the Mediterranean Sea, the head of training of the Russian side, Deputy Commander of the Russian Navy, Vice-Admiral Alexander Fedotenkov, reported.
"Russian and Chinese warships arrived in the area of the training, joined the reserves and are in a drift at designated points. On board the Guards missile cruiser Moskva, which is the flagship of the training, the headquarters of joint Russian-Chinese marine group is set up. In the first half of the day the participants will hold a tactical briefing on the implementation of the tasks. Captains are instructed on security measures," Interfax quotes him as saying.
The results of the exercises will be announced on May 21 at the headquarters of the unified command in the village of Divnomorskoe.
"The Russian-Chinese exercises in the Mediterranean Sea are not directed against a third party, but aim to strengthen mutual understanding between the navies of the two major maritime powers in the promotion of stability and countering new challenges and threats at sea," Fedotenkov said.
