Today the 8th International Mstislav Rostropovich Festival starts in Baku.
Famous musicians and creative teams from all parts the world, including from Russia, will arrive in Baku in order to take part in events organized by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, the Mstislav Rostropovich Fund and the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Azerbaijan.
The festival is to be opened at the Magomayev Azerbaijan State Philharmonic Society where the Azerbaijan State Symphony Orchestra and Choir will perform scenic cantata Carmina Burana by Carl Orff.
Among the Russian participants of the festival will be the Igor Butman’s quartet, which is to perform an extensive concert program "Jazz and not only." One of the soloists will be a young Russian cellist, the winner of the international competitions Arseny Chubachin. The Vishnevskaya Center of Opera will perform opera Ruggiero Leoncavallo's Pagliacci. As always Russia will represent in and young talents in Baku, including rising musical stars of Russia, winners of international violin competitions Robert Brehm and Mikhail Chumakov, cellists Kolodyazhni Timur and Alexander Perlov, pianist Alexander Malofeev, trumpeter Michael Hayduk.
This year the festival will last till May 24, Tass reports.
