Kabardino-Balkaria has commemorated veterans of the Afghan campaign by unveiling a monument erected in their honour at Maysky. It was built in a park on the initiative of veterans and under assistance of the Maysky District Administration, enterprises and organizations, Interfax-South reports.
55 soldiers from the Maysky District took part in the Afghan campaign, four of them were killed in action. Their names (Magomed Kartlykov, Oleg Kishchenko, Sergey Kozlov and Andrey Kosyachenko) were engraved on a marble plate. The heroes were awarded the Red Star Order post-mortem.
