Mirusif Mahmoudov, the head of Global Construction, the company that cladded the multi-apartment building in the Binagadi District of Baku that had been on fire for four hours today, has been taken into custody, Interfax reports.
The police say that improper materials were used for the cladding. They initiated a criminal case into violation of fire safety, abuse of authority, and negligence.
16 people have died in the tragedy, 54 were hospitalized, 10 were given aid at the scene.
