Ivanishvili buys Niko Pirosmani’s masterpiece

Former Prime Minister of Georgia Bidzina Ivanishvili has purchased Georgian painter Niko Pirosmani’s masterpiece 'Arsenal hill at night' for $1.46 million.

“The painting will be returned to Georgia," TASS cited the international director of Christie's Russian Art Department, Alexei Tizengauzen, as saying.

Pirosmani created the painting in 1907-1908. The painting was last sold at Sotheby's auction in 2007 for $1.8 million.
