Yuri Churekov, the chieftain of the Caucasus Cossack Line public organization, was arrested on the order of the Stavropol Regional Court for allegedly smuggling weapons to Ukraine. He was taken into custody until July 26, according to the court's spokeswoman Oksana Melikhova, TASS reports.
Churekov may be jailed for 2-6 years.
Investigators say that the chieftain and locals sold two AKs in Goryachevodskoye on April 28 for 180,000 rubles. On May 29, he was caught near Stavropol.
