20% of Russian traffic police to lose jobs

The Russian traffic police service is expecting 20% of its staff to be
made redundant after the reform of the Ministry of Interior Affairs
comes into force, RIA Novosti reports, citing the head of the State
Automobile Inspectorate Victor Kiryanov.


Kiryanov is taking part at the Third International Congress on road
security. He expressed hope that the drivers will not notice the
shrinking number of police. The official said that in the future the
reduction will not affect traffic security.


Commenting on the reform of the ministry in general he said that it is
obviously necessary, but he failed to say how it will affect the road
police service,
