The head of the Muslim Ecclesiastical Management of
Karachay-Cherkessia and Stavropol Territory Ismail Berdiyev called the
arson of Orthodox churches on Sunday night in Karachayevsk an attempt
to destabilize the situation in the republic and disrupt
inter-confessional peace, RIA Novosti reports.
Two Orthodox churches and a baptist Church were set on fire in
Karachayevsk. Berdiyev expressed hope that the criminals will be
arrested and punished. He urged locals to avoid being provoked by such
incidents.
