Unknown gunmen yesterday killed an imam of the Khasavyurt mosque in Dagestan, RIA Novosti reports, referring to a representative of the town's law-enforcement agencies.
"At around 22:40 Moscow time the imam of one of the mosques, Basir Salakhgereyev, was found with gunshot wounds to the head in Khasavyurt. He died on the way to hospital. An investigation is ongoing at the scene at the moment to discover the details of the incident," the source said.
It was also announced that a militant had been eliminated in a shoot-out in the Dagestani town of Kaspiisk in a special operation carried out by the local Interior and Security forces. A pistol and a bomb-belt was found on his body and defused by experts. One policeman was wounded during the operation. The dead militant's identity is being determined.
