Moscow to open analogue to Honour Memorial on December 19

Moscow’s Poklonnaya Gora will open a memorial to fighters against
fascism, which will become an analogue of the Honour Memorial in
Kutaisi. It will be opened on December 19, 2010, according to Moscow
deputy mayor for coordination of territorial structures of the
executive authorities, Valery Vinogradov, RIA Novosti reports.

Last year the memorial in Kutaisi was blown up. Russian Premier
Vladimir Putin, the Georgian Union in Russia and a set of social
organizations proposed reconstructing a Moscow symbol on Poklonnaya
Gora. The ‘Reichstag’ project was selected. The ‘Historic Heritage’
fund was collecting the finances for the monument. Victor Seliverstov,
head of the fund, deputy of the Moscow City Duma, said earlier that
the memorial will be completed on December 10 and opened before
December 19.

He clarified that the central part of the monument, commemorating the
planting of the flag over the Reichstag, is being completed. The
monument is being made at the Vuchetich workshop. The monument will
have an inscription that it symbolizes ‘the unity of peoples in
edifying those who try to bleed our memory’. The monument will be
built using donations.
