Eearthquake in Southern Iran

An earthquake measuring 5.6 on the Richter site occurred today in the
southern Iran, RIA Novosti reports, citing the website of the US
Geological Survey (USGS).

According to the service, the tremors were recorded at 16:03(local
time). The epicentre was located 165 kilometres south of the
provincial capital, the city of Fars Shiraz and 80 kilometres south of
the city of Firuzabadi.

There is no information on casualties or damages.

Iran is among the ten most earthquake-prone areas of the globe. Almost
every ten years an earthquake with a magnitude over 7.0 occurs in
Iran.
