Azerbaijan forbids bird-hunting

Azerbaijan banned bird-hunting from December 1 for one month, Trend
reports, citing the head of the press service of the Ministry of
Ecology and Natural Resources, Irad Ibragimov.

The press service said that the decision was made due to registration
of bird flu (H1N1) in four people in Turkey and one Georgian citizen
in Hong-Kong.

Wild bird migration from South-East Asia to Azerbaijan and its small
distance from Georgia and Turkey increase the risk of the virus
spreading, Ibragimov said.

Issuing of licenses for hunting was halted. The ministry requested the
state committee for prevention of bird flu and coordination of
activities in the sphere to make a final decision on the issue.

This year Azerbaijan had many requests from hunters and the
bird-hunting season started on November 5.
