Heads of confessions believe inter-ethnic conflicts challenge Russia’s existence

The Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All-Russia believes that
inter-ethnic conflicts in Russia threaten the country's territorial
unity. He urged everyone to avoid radicalism in his speech, broadcast
by TV channels.

He said that there are often someone else’s political interests behind
radicalism and hooliganism. Kirill called for closing down all radical
organizations. He said that this requires efforts by the authorities,
social organizations, the church and religious figures. The patriarch
pointed out that the political forces may become more active, as the
elections in 2012 come closer.

The Council of Russian Muftis says all necessary measures must be
taken to preserve inter-ethnic peace. The council leader, Ravil
Gaynutdinov, urged the Muslim youth not to rise to provocations.

Special attention must be paid to ethnic policy, the formation of
internationalism, elimination of ultra-nationalism and prevention of
xenophobia, Gaynutdinov said on December 11, commenting on the civil
disorders on Manezhnaya Square.

The council leader believes that the events demonstrate the high level
of anti-Caucasian, anti-Islamic, anti-migrant attitude in society.

The Mufti urged all the Muslim youth to avoid rising to provocations
or becoming involved in other people’s plans and to act according to
ethical laws and norms.
