The envoy for human rights in Russia, Vladimir Lukin, stated today that Russian society is characterized at the moment by intolerance and called on the population to instil in children respect for every nation and a sense of a united nation.
Lukin emphasized that the motto "Russia for Russian citizens" is the only way to unite the country. We should bring our children up in an atmosphere of tolerance and unity.
The Public Chamber of Russia is holding its last meeting this year today and is reporting on the conditions of civil society in Russia. The report touches on changes in different spheres of civil life, including social policy and interethnic relations. According to the report, civil society became more active in Russia in 2010. These conclusions were made on the grounds of two major actions carried out this year, i.e. in favor of preserving the Khimkinski Forest and discussion of the General Plan for Moscow.
The members of the Chamber stated that the authorities and society should closely cooperate for the effective work of economic, social and political institutes.
