Russian intelligentsia to protest under slogan ‘Moscow for Everyone’

Russia's clerisy urges Moscow civilians to take part in the
anti-nationalistic protest entitled ‘Moscow for Everyone’ at
Pushkinskaya Square in Moscow on December 26 at 12.00 (Moscow time).
The event was organized by cultural and social figures under the
slogans ‘Russia without Nazism’ and ‘freedom, equality, brotherhood’,
RBK reports.

The declaration of the clerisy describes the disorders on Manezhnaya
Square on December 11 as shameful. They say that nationalists used the
death of the football fan Yegor Sviridov for their own purposes.

The declaration was signed by writer Victor Shenderovich, actress
Chulpan Khamatova, leader of the ‘Protection of Khimkinskiy Forest’
movement Yevgeny Chirikov, musician Vladimir Spivakov and others.
The protest was initiated by Shenderovich. In his blog on December 16
he expressed criticism of xenophobia and urged his readers to join the
protest.

Moscow saw mass disorders after the murder of a Spartak football fan,
Yegor Sviridov, by natives of Kabardino-Balkaria on December 6. A
protest on Manezhnaya Square turned into disorders, with fights
between Caucasians and the police. Members of ethnic communities
gathered for a revenge action on December 15 near the Evropeyskiy
trade center. The fights continued until December 18. Over 60 people
were injured.
