Head of Armenian Seismic Protection Service accused of misuse of funds

A criminal case has been initiated against the head of the National Seismic Protection Service of Armenia, Alvaro Antonyan, for money theft.


According to NEWS.am, citing the press service of the General
Prosecutor's Office of Armenia, Alvaro Antonyan works in the National
Seismology Service of the Emergencies Ministry, he is the director of
the center for support of reduction of seismological risks. He signed
a memorandum on mutual understanding with an official from the
department for environmental control and analysis of the Commissariat
of Nuclear Energy of France, B. Feiner.


it was planned that the memorandum would be followed by protocols. It
was planned to construct a network of advanced seismological stations
in the Vayotsdzor region. The French side violated the deal and took
entire financial responsibility on itself. 70,000 euros were provided
to the Armenian center to support reductions of seismological risks.


Antonyan constructed 6 seismological stations in the Vayotsdzor
region. He exploited the lack of control over the finances and stole
$9,000 of the sum. A criminal case was initiated on point 1, part 3,
article 179 of the Armenian Criminal Code.
