The National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan has proposed postponing
military service for young people, in oredr to provide a constant
education process, Vice-President of the academy Arif Gashimov told
the ruling Yeni Azerbaijan party, Trend reports.
He said that young males with a Bachelor's or Master's degree have to
serve in the army, which is why post-graduate studies are mainly
carried out by females. After establishing families, their studies
begin to drag.
A parliamentary member for security and defense, Siyavush Novruzov,
said that there will be amendments to the law on conscription. He
believes that the amendments will reflect the conscription of
post-graduate students studying abroad.
The law on conscription was adopted in 1992.
