Plane crash in Iran caused by weather conditions

Bad weather conditions and poor visibility caused the crash of a
Beoing-727 belonging to IranAir in the north-west of Iran, Iranian
Transport Minister Hamid Behbahani said, Trend reports.


He added that the pilot died after the crash.


The Boeing-727 plane was flying from Tehran to Urmia. It crashed in
West Azerbaijan Province, Fars cites the Iranian Minister of
Emergencies, Ahmed Mejidi.


77 people, including 7 crew members, died. 27 people were injured,
Fars said on Monday.


An official of the administration of West Azerbaijan Province said
that the last time they had communication with the pilot was prior to
the emergency landing. The pilot managed to report technical problems,
Mehr reports.


The rescue operation is complicated by bad weather conditions.


Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has expressed his condolences to
the relatives of the victims.


A three-day mourning has been called in West Azerbaijan Province.


The Azerbaijani embassy in Iran told Trend that they have no
information on Azerbaijani victims in the plane crash.
