Azerbaijan has found a seismic zone with a 10-point seismic threat on MSK-64 scale for the first time, Trend cites the PhD in mineral science Tair Mamedli, deputy head of the department for seismologic and geodynamic studies of the Republican Center for Seismologic Service of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan.
He said that the new method discovered a seismic zone between Shamakhy to Gonagkend villages. The zone has a 9-point threat. Another zone with a 10-point risk was found on the north of Sheki-Oguz District, near the Russian border.
The scientist said that the seismic map of Azerbaijan made in 1989 does not fully reflect the seismic situation.
Mamedli said that he will soon release his book “Low seismic activity of Azerbaijani territories and its link with modern geodynamics”.
