30 miners have been trapped after a methane explosion in a coal mine
in northern Turkey, Turkey's labor minister Omer Dincer said on
Monday, reports 6news.
The Minister also said that rescue teams still haven't reached the
site of explosion, where the miners have been trapped.
"I was informed that workers had detonated dynamite to open an
underground gallery, and automatic gas devices detected high methane
in the mine. After that, the miners stopped working, cut off the
electricity and began waiting. When the methane level was measured 20
minutes later, everything seemed normal. However, the blast occurred
four minutes afterwards", Dincer said.
"We still have no clear information about what has happened", he said.
"All we can do is to keep our hopes alive and pray for them".
Such incidents have happened before in Turkey. As a result of a
methane explosion in a coal mine 13 miners were killed in February
this year.
