9th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks

Nine years ago suicide bombers of the Al-Qaeda organization captured
four passenger planes and crashed two of them into the Twin Towers of
the World Trade Center in New York City. They crashed a third plane
into the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia. The fourth plane crashed
into a field near Shanksville in Pennsylvania after its passengers and
flight crew tried to regain control of the plane. 2974 people died and
24 are missing as a result of the terrorist acts. 19 terrorists also
died, reports RIA Novosti. US President Barack Obama is to make a
speech today and to hold a minute's silence in honour of the victims
at 08.46 (16.46 MT) in the White House. He will also lay a wreath on
the memorial near the Pentagon building in Arlington. US
Vice-President Joseph Biden will attend the commemoration at Ground
Zero in New York. Barack Obama claimed that he is prolonging the
high-security regime initiated on the 14th of September 2001. At the
American Orthodox Church in Moscow a Requiem service is to take place.
