Georgian president Mikhael Saakashvili has declared April 11 a day of National Mourning for the tragic event that took the life of Polish president Lech Kaczynski, reports Trend, citing the Georgian president's spokesman, Manana Mandjaladze.
The Polish president's plane crashed while attempting to land at Smolesk airport. 97 people died, including high-profile military authorities.
According to Mandjaladze, the Georgian president has signed a decree to award Kaczynski the title of national hero.
"It is hard to overestimate his assistance to Georgia. He has protected the rights of Georgia in the international arena, and was in Tbilisi during the Russian-Georgian armed conflict," - said the Georgian president, "It is a great loss, not just for the Polish nation but for the entire world, as he was an idealist and champion of democracy."
