Turkish singer Tarkan may get two years in jail for drugs

The popular Turkish singer Tarkan may get two years in jail “for use, purchase, storage and marketing of drugs”, says the charge sheet of Istanbul’s prosecution office, published on Friday, RIA Novosti reports.


The singer was arrested in Istanbul in March. 12.5 grams of hashish were found in Tarkan’s villa. Several other people were arrested together with the singer.


Turkish media reports that Tarkan confessed under police interrogation to starting taking drugs six years ago and wants to undergo drug treatment. After 3 days the Turkish pop star was released, his lawyer denied statements about Tarkan’s taking herbs and cocaine being found in his villa.


17 more people are involved in “the Tarkan case”. 15 of them may get from 5 to 23 years of prison for similar charges, NTV reports.


Tarkan (real name – Tarkan Tevetoglu) is the winner of many Turkish and international prizes. His songs have been popular since the 1990s throughout the world. Tarkan is well-known in Russia for his numerous concerts.
