About 200 soldiers and officers of the Azerbaijani Ministry for
Defence were mobilized on Monday to clear up the consequences of the
disaster caused by the Kura River, reports Trend, citing a spokesman
for the deputy defence minister, Teimur Abdullayev.
Over several days, ordinary staff and officers will be involved in the
work of building a dam on the Kura river and assisting people to
return back to villages hit by flooding, he said.
Military personnel are strengthening the dam in the Sabirabad region
and are participating in resolving the problems at Lake Sarisu,"
Abdullayev said.
About 1,200 soldiers and officers of the Ministry of Defence have been
mobilized.
The flooding that has hit 40 Azerbaijani regions has damaged about
20,000 houses, with more than 300 completely destroyed, and 2000 in a
critical condition.
