President of Turkmenistan Garbanguly Berdymukhamedov has ordered development of a programme to privatize housing currently belonging to the state and of creating a realty exchange market, reports Trend.
According to the Altyn Asyr TV-channel, a corresponding order was given today to the vice-premier of the country, Tuvakmamed Japarov. 'I order all that is necessary be done to prepare and present the proposals' - the leader of Turkmenistan said.
'The privatization of housing and the creation of a realty market will be one more important step on our way to successfully implementing our strategy of improving living conditions in our country' - he added.
Privatization of municipal housing is underway in many CIS countries right now.
In Turkmenistan it was abandoned during the presidency of Saparmurad Neyazov, although he made an exception for emigrants to Russia. A special document relating to this was signed in May 1995 by Neyazov
and his Russian colleague Boris Yeltsin.
He announced a possible revival of the project at the beginning of last year.
