World Boxing Championship to be held in Azerbaijan

The Azerbaijani Federation of Boxing (AFB) and the Amateur
International Boxing Association (AIBA) today signed an agreement to
hold the 16th world boxing championship in Baku, Trend reports.

The tournament in Baku will be particularly important in terms of
getting licenses for the summer Olympic Games in London in 2012, the
AIBA President, Ching-Kuo Wu, said at the ceremony. According to him,
boxers from more than 100 countries will come to the championship in
Baku.

The championship will be held in Baku from September 22 to October 10,
2011. The first World Boxing Championship took place in 1974. Among
the CIS countries the tournament was held only once in 1989 in Moscow.
