Russian President Dmitry Medvedev and Prime Minister Vladimir Putin
are visiting an Olympic facility at Krasnaya Polyana, where they
observed the European Cup for skiing competition on the Roza Khutor
skiing track, RIA Novosti reports.
The competition was organized by the Russian Federation of Downhill
Skiing Sport and Snowboarding. The event is taking place on February
15-26.
It is the first testing competition for the Olympic skiing track.
There are two disciplines: downhill and super-giant. There are
separate tracks for men and women. The European Cup is held on
February 15-18 for men and on February 22-26 for women.
Approximately 240 athletes are taking part. The Russian national team
includes Ivan Muravyov, Alexey Andriyevsky, Alexander Vasilyev.
Specialists say that Roza Khutor is one of the world's most
complicated skiing track, in terms of engineering. The track runs
along the extreme drop of altitudes and has the extreme slope.
The starting zone for men is 2045 m above the sea level, for women -
1735 m. The super-giant for men starts at 1592 m, women - 1560. All
tracks have a finish line at 960 m.
The competition will be a test for snow machines, active and passive
security, medical and transport support.
