Centers for training of volunteers in Russia will start work from May. It is anticipated that the 2014 Olympics will need help of 25 000 volunteers, said President of the organizing committee of Sochi Olympic games Dmitry Chernyshenko , RIA Novosti reported.
He recalled that the traditional Olympic and Paralympic Games are held with the participation of a large number of volunteers. At Nagano, there were 33,000 of them, in Salt Lake City - 26000, in Vancouver - 20000, the Games in Sochi it is expected to have 25,000 volunteers.
"The opening of the volunteer center is scheduled for May 14, 2011. This date is not accidental - it will be exactly one thousand days before the Games. And in those thousand days, we had a lot of work to do," said Chernyshenko.
Volunteer training centers will be based at 26 universities in the country (selected from 128 applications) of the 14 regions of Russia.
