Turkey pulls Fenerbahce FC from Champions League

The Fenerbahce FC will not take part in the UEFA Champion League in 2011-2012, the Turkish Football Federation said on Tuesday, Trend reports.


The police suspect Fenerbahce in fixed matches. Football functionaries were arrested in 12 Turkish provinces, including Istanbul and Abkara on July 3. Fenerbahce President Aziz Yildirim was arrested for a fixed match with Eskisehirspor from Istabul in the 2010-2011 season, where Fenerbahce won 3:1.


President of the Tranzonsport, Sadri Shener, and a member of the Turkish Football Federation responsible for national teams, Levent Kyzyl, were arrested.


Turkish media say about 150 may be arrested. It is the second operation against football corruption in Turkey. 55 people were detained in Istanbul in March-April 2010, including coaches and players.
