Russia won the team synchronized swimming for its fourth consecutive gold medal at the London Olympics on Friday, Business Standard reports.

"We are still some distance from Russia. They will be our targets in the future for a long while," Chinese coach Zhang Xiaolei said. "Maybe gold will be our long-term aim. Russia is our motivation."

The Russians earned 98.930 points for the team free routine yesterday, featuring swimmers doing acrobatic flips and pirouetting like ballerinas above the water. Having already won the team technical competition, they totalled 197.030.

"I am very happy that we managed to get the result with the girls and that we carried on the tradition of synchronized swimming," Anastasia Davydova said through a translator.

Tatyana Lysenko of Russia set an Olympic record to win a hammer throw final that was marred by a technical problem and a dispute over the bronze medal on Friday night, Associated Press reports.

Lysenko, the former world-record holder who served a two-year doping ban until 2009, set the games record with her first attempt at 77.56 meters and then improved it with her fifth at 78.18. Aksana Miankova set the old mark of 76.34 at Beijing.

Dzhamal Otarsultanov of Russia won Olympic wrestling gold in the men’s 55-kilogram freestyle, beating Vladimer Khinchegashvili of Georgia to give the Russians four wrestling golds at the London Games, the most of any nation, the Washington Post reports.

Otarsultanov came through with his first Olympic gold by downing the 21-year-old Khinchegashvili 1-0, 4-3.

World champion Magomedrasul Medzhidov of Azerbaijan won Olympic boxing bronze in the men's super-heavyweight division on Friday, narrowly beaten in his semifinal by Italy's defending champion Roberto Cammarelle, RIA Novosti informs.

Earlier on Friday another Azerbaijani boxer, Teymur Mammadov, lost in his semi-final to an Italian, Clemente Russo, and got a bronze medal, Trend informs.
