Brazil took the first two sets by convincing margins, 25-19 and 25-20 and had match point in the third at 24-23 up before the Russians fought back to take the set 29-27.

After this turning point, Russia began to take control, closing out the match by winning the fourth set 25-22 and the decider 15-9.

Egor Mekhontsev won the light heavyweight gold medal on the second tiebreaker Sunday, squeaking past Kazakhstan's Adilbek Niyazymbetov in the Olympic boxing tournament.

The fighters finished at 15 points each, and the countback tiebreaker - which evaluates larger parts of the judges' total scores - also was level. The five judges then voted for their choice, and Mekhontsev won Russia's only boxing gold in London.

Mekhontsev was the world champion heavyweight in 2009, but moved down one weight class for London.
