Almaty became the capital of Universiade 2017, the press service of city reported. A delegation of the city of Almaty, headed by the akim of Almaty, Akhmetzhan Yesimov, arrived in Brussels, news agency Novosti-Kazakhstan writes.
On November 29 Almaty will present its application for the Universiade -2017. The other competitor for this event is the Italian city of Trento. "However, taking into account the obvious advantages of Almaty, as well as the economic crisis, the Italian government has decided to withdraw its candidacy. Thus, in the absence of competitors, Almaty becomes the capital of the Universiade 2017," the statement reads.
