Baku will continue to bid for the right to hold the Olympic Games in
the future, despite the fact that the city has been excluded from the
competition for a second time, RIA-Novosti reports.
The Board of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) decided not to
include Baku and Doha on the shortlist of candidates for the 2020 Olympic
Games at a meeting in Quebec last week. Tokyo, Madrid and
Istanbul will be competing for the right to host the games.
The executive director of "Baku-2020", Kenul Nurullayeva, said that
the decision of the IOC disappointed everyone, because Baku wanted
to prove that "the Olympic Games - are not only a sound investment in
the national sport, health and quality of life of citizens. Baku
wanted to show that the games can be organized in a responsible
manner.
