London Olympic Games to kick off with football

The 2012 Summer Olympic Games start in London today. The female football teams of the UK and New Zealand will have the first matches of the three-week Olympic Games. The opening ceremony of the 30th Olympic Games was set for July 27.

The UN announced peace a week ahead of the games.

British Deputy Foreign Secretary Henry Bellingham said that 193 members of the UN approved the peace resolution at the General Assembly in October 2011.

British diplomats have organized about 50 events to bring peace among various communities and groups all around the world. Football games were organized at the Caribbean Sea. Games for young people of Sudan and Southern Sudan were organized in Khartoum, for refugees in Darfur, in Sri Lanka.

Bellingham said that the next Olympic Games will be entitled Sochi-2014, Rio-2016 and Pjongyand-2018.

British Foreign Secretary William Hague approved resolution 2059 on extension of the monitoring mission in Syria by 30 more days. Al-Assad should use the time to stop violence, he believes.

UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon said that the Olympic and Paralympic Games are a good opportunity to consolidate people of all regions and population groups. He urged people and states to stop violence during the games.

Ban Ki-moon will carry the Olympic Flame along the streets of London on July 26 as part of his visit to Britain on July 26-28.
