President of the International Paralympic Committee Sir Philip Craven concluded the 16th Paralympic Games in London on September 9. He said that the Paralympic spirit born 64 years ago in Stoke Mandeville reached a new level in the last 12 years.
Over 4200 athletes from 165 countries of the world took part in the games. Russia won 36 gold medals, 38 silver and 28 bronze this year. China won 95 gold, 71 silver and 65 bronze.
Russian athletes won 18 gold, 23 silver and 22 bronze medals at the games in Beijing.
President of the Russian Paralympic Committee Vladimir Lukin noted achievements of Russian athletes this year, RIA Novosti reports.
Iran won 10 gold medals, 7 silver and 7 bronze, taking the 11th position.
Azerbaijan won 4 gold medals, 5 silver and 3 bronze, taking the 27th position, although the 30th was expected.
Turkey won 1 gold medal, 5 silver and 4 bronze, taking the 43rd position.
Georgia has not won a single medal.
The Summer Paralympic Games of 2016 will be held in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil).
