Today in Moscow, the Sochi Olympics organizing committee presented the new Olympic torch. It is made of aluminium and weighs 1.5 kilograms. Torches for the Olympic and Paralympic games differ only in color scheme - red or blue. According to the designers, the shape of the torch symbolizes the feather of the Firebird.

There will be 14,000  torches for the number of people who are expected to take part in the Olympic torch relay. The organizers say it will be the largest relay in the history of the Olympic Games.

 

The Olympic flame will pass through 2900 settlements, will be delivered to the summit of Mount Elbrus, the North Pole and even sent to space.

 

The selection of torch bearers will start from January 15. The Sochi Olympics will be held from 7 to 23 February 2014, the Paralympic Games - from 7 to 16 March.
