Makhachkala getting ready for Caucasian Games

Once the festival "Caucasian Games", which took place in Nalchik and Cherkessk, was over, the preparations for it began in full swing in Makhachkala.It is expected that the "Caucasian Games" in the capital of Dagestan will be a large-scale event, which will promote national sports and reflect the diversity of the multinational culture of the peoples of Dagestan.Yesterday, in preparation for the Games a festival with the same name was held in Makhachkala. It was organized by the Committee of Sports, Tourism and Youth Affairs of Makhachkala, with the help of the United Russia supporters' Regional Council. In addition, in the framework of the all-Russian project "Green Marathon 2013" a track and field race took place, supported by Sberbank.At the opening of the festival the chairman of the Committee on Sports, Tourism and Youth Affairs, Islam Aliyev, stressed the importance of this event for the youth and all the inhabitants of the city. "This festival is being held here in Makhachkala for the first time, and is devoted to the upcoming Victory Day. Athletes from educational institutions and sports schools of the capital will perform at the competitions. I'm sure that in the upcoming stages of the Caucasian Games in Dagestan our sportsmen will demonstrate their skills and ability to win. The recent success of the Dagestani national team in the previous Games indicates this," Aliyev said and wished all the competitors good luck.The deputy Minister for Physical Culture and Sports of Dagestan, Magomed Rabadanov, also came to greet the athletes. "I hope that the participants in the competition will reach the final national games to be held in Izberbash at the end of June. The Dagestani national team, which will represent our country at the general Caucasian Games, will be formed then. Last year our team won second place. I'm sure that this year thanks to your efforts we will surpass this result," RIA Dagestan quotes Rabadanov.The deputy minister also said that the winners of the "Green Marathon" possibly could be among the lucky ones who will take part in the Olympic torch relay in Makhachkala.The city festival included 10 sports: arm-wrestling, rope climbing, belt wrestling, weight transfer on distance, weight lifting, power triathlon, moving on stilts, jumping on one leg, double jump event, and tug of war.
