New training system for sportsmen appears in Russia
President Dmitry Medvedev considers the funds allocated towards preparing Russian athletes at previous Olympics to have been used inefficiently, despite the fact that the funds allocated were no less and often more than those of other countries . Speaking at a session of the presidential Sports Council, Medvedev called the 11th place achieved by the Russian side in the team events "a bad result", RIA Novosti reports.
The president also noted that the heads of federations and team coaches were mostly responsible for the results of Russian teams. And now the responsibility is "diffused" between the Olympic Committee, sports federations, Ministry of sport and tourism and regional authorities.
Dmitry Medvedev also considers the influence and level of representation of Russian representatives in international sport organizations to be insufficient. "Our present capacities do not allow us to promote and defend the interests of our athletes, as we have seen recently. Moreover, it is very important to participate in the development of international sporting agreements and regulations", - he said
Medvedev also noted that a joint centre for monitoring Russian athletes should be created before the 2014 Olympics.
In conclusion Medvedev noted that during the Sochi Olympics 2014 Russia should not only be a country of generous hospitality but also a country capable of winning.
