Turkish Minister for EU Affairs Egemen Bagis has blamed protesters of the Gezi Park for losing the bid to host the 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Istanbul.
He clarified that the protesters had filed several notes to the International Olympic Committee, urging it not to choose Turkey as the Olympic host.
Turkey guaranteed to spend $19 billion to organize the Olympic Games in 2020, should it be chosen to host them. The IOC will announce the winner of the Olympic bid on September 7.
