Baku starts countdown to first European Games

Today Baku has initiated countdown to the start of the first European Games in history which will take place in 600 days. The Games will be attended by athletes from 49 European member countries of the Olympic movement and will be held every four years. The first European Games will take place in 2015 in Baku and are expected to be attended by 5,600 participants from 18 sports.

Preparations for the Games in Baku proceed according to the schedule. The "Crystal Hall" which hosted the Eurovision Song Contest 2012, the new water sports center and a modern multi-functional stadium with a capacity of 65 thousand spectators will host the event. The construction of the Olympic Village is in progress, ITAR-TASS reports.  The complex of skyscrapers. the "Fire Tower" and a building designed by the British architect Zaha Hadid, the Cultural Center named after Heydar Aliyev will also host the sports events.
