President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC ) Thomas Bach and UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon acted as torchbearers on a section of the Olympic torch relay.
Ban Ki-moon , in preparation for the relay, said that for him it is a great honor to become a torchbearer of the Sochi Olympics. " Sochi is a great place for the Games, I am pleasantly surprised by the hospitality of the Russians " , ITAR-TASS quotes the UN Secretary General.
Passing the baton to his colleague, Thomas Bach said that he "experienced a fantastic feeling " from his participation in the race .
Also today, the UN Secretary-General spoke at the 126th General Assembly of the IOC in Sochi.
" I am honored to take part in the session of the IOC and to attend the opening ceremony of the Games", he said. " I'm glad to be in Sochi. Thanks Russia for the hospitality and the people of Sochi for the warm welcome."
