2nd Youth Summer Olympic Games start in Nanjing

The Second Youth Summer Olympic Games have started in China's Nanjing. The opening ceremony was held today, on August 16th.

Some 3600 athletes aged 14-18 are expected to take part in the event. 202 countries are going to compete for 222 medals. 30 kinds of sports are represented at the games.

The Russian national team includes 84 athletes.

"The team includes our best athletes. We believe they will demonstrate a great performance. The youth Olympic games held for the second time are not just a sporting competition, but a cultural event as well," the head of the Russian Olympic Committee, Alexander Zhukov, is quoted as saying by ITAR-TASS.

Azerbaijan, who is also taking part in the games, is expected to be Russia's major competitor in wrestling.
