Izmir hosts World Free Calisthenics Championship

Izmir will host the World Free Calisthenics Championship today. 312 gymnasts from 58 countries will participate in the championship.

Turkey will be represented by 9 gymnasts, including Yana Kudryavtseva (three times winner of previous year’s championship) and Margarita Mamun (winner of two gold awards at 2013 World Championship).

Russia will be represented by Yana Kudryavtseva, Margarita Mamun, Alexandera Soldatova, Diana Borisova, Maria Tolkacheva, Alexandra Semenova, Darya Avtonomova, Anastasia Tatareva and Anastasia Maksimova.

The Azerbaijani team arrived in Izmir on Friday. It will be represented by Marina Durunda, Gulsum Shafizadeh, Nilufyar Niftaliyeva, Siyana Vasileva, Sabina Abbasova, Diana Doman, Alia Pashayeva, Aynur Mustafayeva, Alexandra Platonova. Vasileva, Abbasova, Doman, Pashayeva, Mustafayeva and Platonova won silver at Euro-2014. Mariana Vasileva, the chief coach of the Azerbaijani team, said that the Euro-2014 games demonstrated prospects of the gymnasts.

The World Championship will start at 11.00am on September 22 and end on September 28. France will make the first performance. Russian gymnasts Soldatova, Mamun and Kudryavtseva will perform after 4.00pm. Turkey is hosting the championship for the first time.
