Khadzhimurat Gatsalov to carry Russian flag at opening of First European games

The Olympic champion in freestyle wrestler, Khadzhimurat Gatsalov will be the standard-bearer of the Russian team during the opening of the First European Games in Baku, the press service of the Russian Olympic Committee said.

 

 

Khadzhimurat Gatsalov is an Honored Master of Sports, three-time world champion, five-time champion of Europe end eight-time champion of Russia. He won the gold medal in the freestyle 96 kg class in the 2004 Summer Olympics, TASS reminds.The 2015 European Games will be held in Baku on 12-28 June 2015. Their program includes competitions in 20 sports. More than 6 thousand athletes from 49 countries will participate in the Games, 239 sets of medals will be played for.The Baku 2015 European Games Organizing Committee is headed by the First Lady of Azerbaijan, the President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, a member of the executive committee of the National Olympic Committee of Azerbaijan, Goodwill Ambassador of UNESCO and ISESCO, Mehriban Aliyeva. This fact indicates the importance of this event to the Republic of Azerbaijan: the successful experience of holding Eurovision 2012 in Baku under the leadership of Mehriban Aliyeva inspires confidence that the European Games will reach the standards of preparing and holding sports at this level.
