Armenian premier says tourism sphere promising

Armenian Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan called tourism a promising sphere of the country’s economic development at a presentation of the Armenian online hotel booking service www.armhotels.am, ARKA reports.


95% of Armenians living abroad have never visited their ethnic homeland. Sargsyan plans to increase tourism to 3 million visitors daily.


Armenian tourism grew by 4% in 2009, 17% in 2010, he emphasized.


The National Statistics Service of Armenia said that tourism increased by 18.9% in 2010, compared with 2009. There were 683,979 visitors in 2010, compared with 575,281 in 2009.
