“Tired Hercules” statue returns to Antalya

The Museum of Fine Arts in Antalya has put the “Tired Hercules” statue on display after 30 years. The top part of the statue was stolen and has recently been returned, ITAR-TASS reports.

Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan took part in restoring the statue.

The lower part was discovered by Professor Jale Inan in 1980 at Perge. The top part was rumored to have been taken to the USA illegally. It was found in Boston in 1990. Turkish journalist Ozgen Ozer helped find the part.

Turkish Minister for Culture and Tourism Ertugrul Gunay said that the US had not admitted the fact that the parts belong to each other.

Another statue arrived from Berlin in July, a sphinx aged 3,500 years. The sphinx was found in Chorum Province in 1915.
