Skiing season opens in Georgia’s Gidauri Resort

 

The skiing season has opened in the winter resort of Gidauri (Eastern Georgia), News Georgia reports.

The territory of Gidauri became a resort in May 2011, managed by the Mayor’s Office of Tbilisi.

Gidauri replaced the cableway and extended it, cleared skiing routes. A special route was built for beginner skiers. New systems of electricity, natural gas, plumbing and sewers were built. A new tourism service and an office of ambulance were formed. The parking lot has a capacity of 1000 cars.

Construction of the long skiing elevator with a length of 2,450 meters will be completed in February. Each cable car may hold up to 10 people.

Tbilisi Mayor Gigi Ugulava said earlier that the International Ski Federation had permitted a snowboarding tour in Gidauri with 300 competitors on February 18-20, 2012.
