Russian president Dmitri Medvedev has proposed favouring tourism
development over industrial projects in the North Caucasus. He said
that tourism could be a common sector of the economy for all the
Caucasian republics, RBC reports.
About 450 billion rubles are to be spent on developing tourism in the
region, Alexander Khloponin, the presidental plenipotentiary
representative in the North Caucasus reported, in particular the
building of ski resorts in Krasnodar Krai, Dagestan, North Ossetia,
Karachay-Cherkessia, the Adyg republic and Kabardino-Balkaria.
